Danny Green vs Paul Briggs

on Main Event Wednesday

21st July 2010 17/7/2010 by Young Victor

Paul Briggs after a layoff of 3 years will fight IBO World Cruiserweight Champion over 12 rounds for his title.

Green is a hot favourite but Briggs is planning on finishing the fight inside the distance. In theory Green will be in much better condition as he has been in fighting shape since he demolished legend Roy Jones Junior and later Manny Siaca in April 2010. Green has not fought over 5 rounds since 2007.

YVB think Green will be too fast, agile and destructively hungry but Briggs being a big puncher is always with a good chance.

Savior needed for top line fight card 17/7/2010 by Young Victor

Local Melbourne promoter Charlie Liparota of RINGSIDE PROMOTIONS looks like being the man to save PABA Light heavyweight fight featuring "Tiger" Tim Bell and Joel Casey' along with the great undercard fights planned previously by Sydneysider Michael O'Brien.

The card was planned to run at Sebel Hotel ballroom on 8th Aug. when it fell through after changing from Sebel Hotel to  MCEC and totally abandoned.

Mr. Liparota is desperately trying to acquire another venue for this show.

You can rest assured that as soon as this is accomplished we will bring you the details on our boxing ticket sales section to the right on this page.

Briggs would have taken Green Machine in the car park
Paul Briggs said he would have fought Danny Green in the car park after authorities in NSW refused to sanction his quest to win the IBO world cruiserweight title.
This prompted the furious pair to shift the July 21 fight from the Sydney Entertainment Centre to Perth's Challenge Stadium.
The NSW Combat Sports Authority decided against sanctioning the fight because there were concerns over Briggs' health as he had not fought in a competitive bout since February 2007. READ.

Irate Green chases lost millions

DANNY GREEN will initiate legal proceedings that, if successful, could bankrupt the NSW Combat Sports Authority. Melbourne results at Coburg 9th July

Daniel Iannazzo vs Allan Jay Tunacao

Tunacao Win points

Tunacao outclasses Iannazzo

 by Young Victor

Iannazzo started in the first round with a seemingly cautious manner and it was thought that he may have been troubled by Tunacao's southpaw stance. Iannazzo stayed well away from his opponent with his punches falling very short of target.

Throughout most rounds Daniel's left lead punches seemed to be aimed only at Allan's right glove and not to the face.

Iannazzo made several bursts of fury he normally makes at most of his opponents but were not working out against his confident opponent. His usual potent left and rights he ends these bursts with were way off target as Tunacao was very fast in ducking and weaving in addition to his good defense throughout.

Tunacao remained very composed throughout the fight and won at least 11 rounds of the contest.

A large amount of standing absolutely still, possibly teasing one another during the rounds was by acted by both fighters with nothing gained.

The split decision by two of the judges stood out like you know what. The scores by two of the judges were  way out.

The technique in fighting southpaws may be a forgotten art.

Susie Ramadan vs Jane Kavulani

Ramadan Win points

Susie Ramadan joined Australia’s boxing elite on Friday night when she defeated All-African champion Jane Kavulani to claim the World Boxing Federation bantamweight title.

Susie kept the pressure on Jane throughout the 10 rounds despite her disadvantage in height and reach.

Susie maintained taking the lead off Jane and followed up with numerous punch combinations Jane had little answers for. Susie Ramadan is ready for higher rated opponents in the WBC, IBF and WBA World ranked opponents.

Serge Yannick vs William Hadlow

Yannick Win TKO rnd 8

William Hadlow with a lion's heart fought the 8 rounds in a gallant manner with plenty of attacks and good defense but fell short of Melbourne's Serge Yannick's brilliant tactics and control of the fight.

At times it was astonishing at how much punishment William can take before relenting but this was no option for the experienced NSW fighter.

In the eight round Yannick went into a higher gear and placed the true hearted fighter William Hadlow in a state where he was unable to continue but still standing. Referee Tony Maretta timely stopped the fight and awarded a Tko win to Yannick.

Memorable WBF Asia Pacific Cruiserweight title fight at Malvern Town Hall

25th. June 2010:

Courageous orthodox fighter Kane McKay (right) dug deep with no avail to find a way to stop promising up and comer Blake Caparello (left).

For 8 gruesome rounds he attempted to turn the fight his way with Caparello a southpaw taunting his opponent in close quarters allowing McKay to shower him with punches which some were connecting and most were not. However this suited Caparello as at payback time he punished McKay with severe rights and lefts.

The fight was a huge crowed pleaser throughout Kane being an expert at creating such events.

YVB expect Caparello to rise up to national standard very quickly as he possesses lots of natural ability that may even take him a long way beyond.

"History in the making"

Towards the end of round 8 with both fighters wearing injuries from this gruesome fight and Kane against the ropes in an upright stance seemingly out on his feet, suddenly, dropped his hands down to his waist and challenged Blake to hit him again which in turn did take place and in turn suffered more blows to the head. Immediately the referee Malcolm Bulner stopped proceedings to award a Tko win to the new WBF Cruiserweight champion.

When asked by YVB in the change rooms why he ended the fight in that manner he responded he had no memory of the instance.

It seems that the towel thrown in at the right moment or an earlier stoppage by Bulner may have saved the last two destructive punches that preceded the stoppage.

There always is a good time for retirement from the game of boxing and Kane's time, a family man and a father of two children can wisely choose this epic occasion to exit proudly.

John McCubbin's Callan Orchard to impress

Capable Dane Campbell the larger built than his opponent Callan Orchard seemed to be in control of his fight until about mid rounds when Callan decided to retaliate and countered well which turned the direction of the fight very quickly. this showed his ability to changing his fight plan which resulted in a huge win earning a standing ovation by all fans in attendance, unfortunately a photo of Dane was not acquired as it takes two to make a fight and deserves praise for his efforts. John McCubbin a former Australian Light Heavyweight champion trains Orchard with special interest.  by Young Victor

Blake vs McKay tonight at Malvern

Australian light heavyweight Blake Capparello (4-0, 1 KO) will clash with Kane McKay (8-8-2, 4 KOs) over ten rounds with World Boxing Foundation Asia Pacific 175 pound title up for grabs at the Malvern Town Hall.

Promising and up and coming Capparello will be fighting a man in Kane McKay that only fights to one plan and that is to punish his opponent right up to the last minute of the contest.

Capparello is unbeaten in his 4 pro fights to date, his last victim being Joel Casey, he won by unanimous decision.

New grounds for Capparello will be the 10 rounds as previously only 8 but this said he is one of Australia's promising light heavyweights.

YV predicts a points win for Capparello.

BOXING 11/6/2010

Young Victor (editor of this site) has memories of sparring with much publicized Les Kane (rough boys but later criminals) for just a couple of rounds in about 1960/61.

Les was brought up by his brother Brian Kane to Snowy's gym  whom stood  around the ring watching as YV put him through a few moves but was far from a professional.

Despite living and kicking around North Melbourne in those youthful times YV had selected friends but knew most of the North boys whom were very fond of him through the boxing days.

Brian was the one really more involved in boxing and had a few scraps with a couple of YV's opponents in later days unknown to YV at the time.

YV remembers being taken once to a now, famous two-up game and once going to what they called the Barrel (a party where by midnight a hundred or so boys would belt into each other until heavily marked, black eyes and bleeding) where the next day they would show up in the streets of North Melbourne best of friends.

Winner: B Williams unanimous points
Referee: Ignatius Missailidis
Judges: Andrew Campbell  (40:36) : Peter Flaherty (39:37) : Brian Butler (40:36)

Clint from the blue corner started the first round in action packed mode with good leads followed by good combinations. However Brett caught up by ending the round in front and kept the pressure on with his accuracy keeping him in front to win by a unanimous points decision.

Winner: T Tzouramanis split points
Referee: Chris Anderson
Judges: Andrew Campbell  (39:37 Tzouramanis) : Ignatius Missailidis (40:36 Tzouramanis) : Brian Butler (39:37 Monitto)

Monitto has a huge heart but doesn't care about defense and at 30 years of age with a family to look after would best serve himself to retire from boxing as the game can become dangerous when approached in his manner.

6x3
Tim Hunt
66.00 v Jean Claude 68.00
Winner: T Hunt TKO 3:00 R5 (Jean Claude retired in corner)
Referee: Ignatius Missailidis
Judges: Chris Anderson : Peter Flaherty : Brian Butler

Tim Hunt in early rounds had his usual brilliant composure spoilt by the one tunneled style of Jean Claude.

Claude swings like a windmill and it didn't take Hunt long to define his choice of fighting to completely outclass his opponent and land all punches at will.

During the contest Claude's both eyes were cut and it was decided by his corner to retire from the fight.

8x3 Victorian Light Heavyweight Title
Blake Caparello
78.70 v Joel Casey 79.30
Winner: B Caparello unanimous points
Referee: Chris Anderson
Judges: Andrew Campbell  (77:75): Peter Flaherty (77:75) : Brian Butler (79:76)

Blake Caparello started the first round with very accurate and speedy straight lefts followed by as accurate landed straight rights which served him well for the first 3 rounds but was out boxed at close quarters.

Joel Casey a handy experienced fighter found his ground starting from the 4th round and got on the mark as Caparello's condition seemed to fade a little.

Casey fought well and used very impressively targeted uppercuts for the following rounds but didn't do quite enough to take the points win from Caparello.

12x3 WBC Asian Pacific & IBF Pan Pacific Welterweight Title
Heath Ellis
66.60 v Steve Maxwell 65.20
Winner: S Maxwell KO 1:19 R4
Referee: Ignatius Missailidis
Judges: Andrew Campbell  : Peter Flaherty : Chris Anderson

A sensational KO ended a sure win for our Victorian star Heath Ellis the nephew of Australian Boxing legend former World champion Lester Ellis.

The fans at the Malvern Town Hall stood paralyzed as a perfectly landed left hook was aimed and landed on its target in perfect style due to the preceding landed lefts and rights which had Ellis in trouble with little time for his corner to take any action.

Ellis laid on the canvas surrounded by his seconds and the doctor for several minutes with a stretcher in waiting but not used as to everyone's relief Heath stood up.

Porky shapes up for title fight at Cranbourne
BOXER Daniel “Porky” Lovett says the fear of losing in his home town has pushed him to “do everything right” ahead of his Australian title fight at Cranbourne Racecourse on Saturday night.
Lovett, 26, meets Queenslander Shane McConville over 10 rounds for the vacant light heavyweight title. A win would set him up for a tilt at a world ranking.
A crowd of 10,000 is expected at the racecourse.
“If I don’t perform in front of all the locals I’ll look like an idiot. I’ll have to move,” Lovett said last Tuesday.

Frank Bianco returns to gym!

22nd Jan. 2009

Last week Frank Bianco returned to his gym he has run since 1971 looking in good shape after his bad acquaintance with cancer.

Although he is still being treated with chemo he is full of life and looking ahead with confidence. Frank has been running his gym at Lower Templestowe for the last 16 years with one of the last boxers he trained being Luke Moloney, he was recently seen in "the contender series"

Frank started boxing at 11 years of age at the Collingwood youth club with Leo Cole, he won the Golden Gloves award twice 1977 and 78. After turning pro he fought Billy O'Conner and beat Alan Presnell he told YVB he sparred Les Dunn many times Les being a former opponent of the writer.

His gym mates then being Bobby Dunn, Wayne Bannister, Lionel Rose, Leo Young and Johnny Famechon, even Tony Mundine and many more.

According to Young Victor, Frank is a softy trainer and he admits that he does not push his kids which is good practice, he said that unless his boys are absolutely ready he does not let them fight anybody.

YVB hope that Frank keeps on the improve as he has a lot of young men that love the way he runs his gym.

Frank has a good man in Scotty seen below that helps him keep the gym open and Scotty has been doing a great job while Frank was in hospital in keeping the gym running. Dedicated to Frank's gym, Scotty catches the bus from Preston and walks if he doesn't have his bus fare money.

Hopkins / Danny Green

17th Jan 2009

Bernard knows this is not the same Danny that spent so much time around world rated fighters waiting for his big chance and having to return to Australia

There can only be one reason for all the excuses made by Bernard Hopkins in making sure this fight does not take place and that is that he is scared of facing Green after seeing the massive destruction of his American partner in the legend department. by Young Victor

Sam Soliman vs Shannon McMahon for WBF title

13th Jan 2009:

Sam Soliman is to fight Shannon McMahon at Moonee Valley Racecourse 13th March.

What seems a lopsided match, the fight is taking place and places McMahon in what surely looks to be a difficult task to undertake according to YVB.

Shannon is a good boxer but handling Sam may be hard.

Sam a master at spoiling anyone's style, this proven by beating Enrique Ornelas in 2006 who just went the distance with legend Bernard Hopkins in December 09 with Sam still, not getting a chance at a world title.

Common knowledge was that fighting Sam was difficult so he was never given the chance he deserved for a world title fight.

Sam fought and lost to Ronald Wright (Winky) a disputed decision having deserved better result.

Sam Soliman is now on the edge of his career but full of cagey experience with fitness being one of his favorite conditions.

A win for Shannon would be a great achievement, it would place him in a good position for bigger fights. Shannon is a great person and deserves this chance.
